ABOUT RAFAEL

Rafael Islas was born in Mexico. He studied Chemistry at the Universidad de Guanajuato, where he completed his B.Sc. degree in 2007. That same year, he began his Ph.D. research at the same institution under the supervision of Prof. Gabriel Merino, completing his doctoral studies in 2011.
His B.Sc. thesis was awarded the Rafael Illescas Frisbie Prize by the Mexican Chemical Society in 2007, while his Ph.D. thesis was recognized by the Mexican Academy of Sciences in 2013 as the best doctoral thesis of his generation.
He subsequently carried out one year of postdoctoral research at the Universitat de Girona, Spain, under the supervision of Prof. Miquel Solà.
He is currently a Professor at Universidad Andrés Bello in Chile and has been distinguished with Level I membership in Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNI).
